Devegetation
Vegetation clearance usually leads to a more stabile site.
What is De-vegetation?
Vegetation can be a mixed blessing on geotechnical structures. In some cases, it can cause instability, especially on rock structures. In other cases, like soil slopes, vegetation can be extremely beneficial.
In order to access the work areas and undertake stabilisation, vegetation often requires removal – the act of de-vegetation.
Where vegetation is causing instability of the ground we treat trees with herbicides to prevent re-growth, Where retaining vegetation is desirable and creates stability, a minimally disruptive approach is used and we work around existing trees and vegetation where possible.
We can identify and provide suitable treatment for invasive plant species removal and provide recommendations with ecological support services within the RSK group to advise on any vegetation work.
How the process works
We undertake de-vegetation from MEWPs, with excavator-mounted attachments, or by rope access, and CAN has LANTRA-qualified tree-climbing experience.
We also commonly work closely with our sister companies to provide robotic slope clearance services where appropriate.
Once work is complete, careful and responsible reinstatement of vegetation should always be a consideration and something we can advise on. In some cases, reinstatement is an opportunity to enhance not only slope stability but also security, ecological diversity and aesthetic appearance of the site.
