Void Filling & Grouting
What is Void Filling and grouting?
Voiding within Geotechnical structures, or man-made ground, can often lead to longer-term stability problems. Voids are mostly created through natural or man-made cavities like caves, or culverts, or improper compaction of ground.
How does the process work?
In the case of large voids, bulk void filling is one way to rectify the issues.
Where possible, we would first consider non-human entry methods, such as drilling and grouting before exposing people. However, void filling may require people to access the area first to carry out an assessment or prepare the space. In this instance, we provide high-risk confined space personnel to undertake the work. They are trained to work safely and efficiently in enclosed and dangerous environments.
In the case of smaller voids, or loosely compacted ground, we often use drill and injection methods to introduce cementitious grouts into the spaces. Gravels or sand cement mortars are also an option if the design requires it.
We can provide the full service from design through to installation, materials testing and future inspection, monitoring and maintenance. By having full oversight of the project, we can mitigate future challenges and ensure the site is maintains its stability over the years to come.
